Beelink L55 Mini PC (Dual Gigabit LAN Office PC), Real world usage review.

Hey all, this is my real world review of how the palm-sized Beelink L55 Mini-PC performs. Given that this is a Mini-PC, I will be deviating a bit from my typical style and instead focus more on providing as much information to assist with your purchase decision. I remain open to further specific testing and or questions that might need to be answered.

[attachmentid=10287362]

What are Mini PCs and why even purchase them in the first place?
Mini PCs work as desktop PCs that utilize very little to no desk space. They are so much smaller (truly palm-sized & lightweight, as is the case of the Beelink L55) than the typical desktop PC, that they can easily be attached to the back of a monitor, preferably using a standard VESA mount. Fortunately the L55 does come standard with made to order mounts (See included images below..Wall & Monitor mountable). This is a significant advantage in work spaces where space is limited and or you don’t actually want a tower case, for example, a receptionist’s desk or small home office. They can also work for children, parents, and others with simpler needs.

Other benefits include being lower power consumption and, in fan-less models, low noise levels. On could also get a Mini-PC as a ready backup to a full-sized desktop, provided, you take the time to set it up first. These way, should you current Desktop PC fail for any number of reasons and you have to work on some files, etc.. You can easily pull this out and ready to continue in less than a minute.

The Beelink L55 takes 3 seconds from pressing the power button to emitting a beep or booting sound. From then on, it takes an additional 7 seconds to get to the Windows Welcome screen. Continues loading and in total, takes just 17 seconds, from pushing the power button till a fully loaded desktop. Full shutdown takes 5 - 6 seconds. These are numbers that I can live with. The Intel Core i3-5005U is a ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor based on the Broadwell architecture. In addition to two CPU cores with Hyper-Threading clocked at 2.0 GHz (no Turbo), the chip also integrates an HD Graphics 5500 GPU and a dual-channel DDR3(L)-1600 memory controller.

Youtube Tests were carried out using the latest Chrome browser. The Windows bundled Microsoft Edge browser allows max 1080p resolution. So I'd use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
Up to 1440p@60fps plays fine in windowed mode. However, during 1440p@60fps playback, switching between full-screen to windowed mode (Alt + Enter) shows it's struggle.
2160p@30...plays mostly smoothly but every few seconds, there are noticeable jerks and judders in the video and audio as it struggles to continue playback. I left this running for 5 minutes, fan speed was increased and for the first time in hours of normal daily desktop usage, the top of the device was a bit warm to touch. Through it all (fan speed, noise and temperature) dropped, returning to normal once playback is stopped and tab closed.
Lastly, some UserBenchmark Information

Conclusion
I used this L55 as my daily driver for over a week and I can conclude that it excels in general day to day PC tasks. Tasks such as MS Office suite, Internet browsing, medium image manipulation, light video editing (can be used to edit 4K files, it just takes longer), light games and or res-lowered games, normal media playback. Tested a few Jellyfish files with Kodi and in comparison to most Android OS powered boxes, it falls far short. It was only able to play up till the "jellyfish-60-mbps-hd-hevc-10bit" and even then, you could see it struggling. Unlike say the Beelink GT-King that was able to easily play Jellyfish test files up to the "jellyfish-200-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv" file. The inclusion of the dual Gigabit LAN ports is to assist manage one's security. One could configure it to separately access the internal LAN and the external networks. Heat dissipation is very good and noise levels is negligible for normal operations. The fan is very quick to ramp up and down as needed.

Lastly, this model is fully compatible with Ubuntu and LibreELEC. Given the above, one may say..why not buy a more powerful mini PC. For example, an Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) can be speeced with a Core i7 processor, 32GB of memory, a whopping 2TB M.2 SSD and a secondary 2TB hard drive. The major drawback for such specs is of course the pricing: Can be as much as RM6xxx. The Beelink L55 on the other hand is much more cheaper. I’d like to thank Beelink for providing the L55 for review.

Introduction

Launched in December 2018, Xiaomi finally expanded its MiJia branded IoT into smart door lock.
It features 6 ways of unlocking the door without compromising much of its main feature as security door lock.
Any new release from Xiaomi is really exciting because they offer equivalent tech specification at an affordable low price.
The MiJia Smart Door Lock is no exception. Currently it is on sale officially only in China for RMB1299.
Interested consumer who like to expand their Mi Home IoT products can get it locally from Shopee or Lazada for approximately RM999.
At this price point, it is half the price of the equivalent mortise digital lock offered by other reputable brand.
Furthermore, being part of the Mi Home app ecosystem, the capacity for automation is practically limitless! More on that later.

Monitor IO

5 buttons for menu, changing monitor preset contrast." Lighteffect" button (not too sure what it does), Resolution switching button(to switch to 4k or 1440p or 1080p and On/Off

Review
I had 2 defective model because of dead pixel. Luckily they have a zero dead pixel policy within 7 days which I am quite happy with their customer service. On site pickup for West Malaysia as well for warranty
However it means I have tested 3 monitor by July 27.

The stand, Is a pain in the butt to put it in for the first time. Because you gotta use quite a large amount of force to push it in. And you are scared to break the panel but after installing, reinstalling is much more seemless.
The easy switch to change the monitor resolution:
1) FHD at 144hz
2) QHD @ 60hz
3) QHD @ 120hz
4) UHD @ 60hz

In order to get it running at QHD/1440p at 144hz you gotta go to advance monitor setting and change to 144hz
Although it mentioned that it has thin bezel of 15mm however it is more like 18mm in all 4 areas. (Nick picking)

Is it sharp at 4k? Yes it is "quite" sharp at 4k, you are able to switch to either to 1440p 120hz/144hz or 1440p 60hz (freesync supported), 4k 60hz(Freesync supported) or 1080p 144hz
My video sources for 4k is from Youtube so if it is sharp there, I guess it is alright since I do not have an Netflix account or other 4k content.

Since it is an IPS, the ips glow as they call it. Seriously I don't notice it when I was checking for dead pixels but in my camera(taken by s9+) it looks quite bad but that for you to decide. For me, I still cant see the glows.
user posted image

Was there ever ghosting that I have notice. Well I did not notice any ghosting but I admit I am quite ignorant on this. So take it with A TRUCKLOAD of Salt.

Problem
I found one major flaw on this monitor: 144hz is a no go. On all 3 monitor I have obtained. Only tested this on DP cable that they gave me and also only on DP
Whether it is 1440p or 1080p, @144hz there is a screen tearing on the bottom side of the monitor. Only at the bottom. On the first day of me getting this monitor, I did not notice it at first (I did notice it after watching the video cuz I was STARING CLOSELY) while playing game(Apex legend,WWZ,dota2) But when I watch video, there is at horrible horizontal tearing on all 3 monitor (was watching IZ*one violeta flower edition at 60hz). I tried some of solution like hardware acceleration enable and disable, Vsync my browser. But the tearing persist, not only that, it only happen on the bottom side of the monitor consistently. However I kept the monitor running now at 120hz and i don't notice it anywhere in the bottom panel.
If there is a way for me to upload video instead of to youtube please tell me.

The problem only can be seen if you full screen the video while if you watch it in theater mode, the top 80% or with the ciinema black bar on top and bottom, is fine. But the bottom 20/10% is not.
This actually tells me that the panel cannot handle 144hz but only at 120hz at best which is a turn off for people. I am not sure if it is only unique to my case where all 3 monitors have this issue or others did not face this issue or they are not as critical about this issue.

If you wondering about 4k, nope 4k is fine since it is 60hz. Like I said on top Only happen in 144hz regardless of 1440p or 1080p

Conclusion
For RM 1.2k, yes it is a cheap monitor but it comes with a major problem, it doesn't do well enough in 144hz. Is it a turn off? To some, yes. To me, I dunno. I am still considering if i want this monitor or not. I mean 120hz is still a high enough refresh rate and I doubt I can run 144hz at 1440p nor I would be able to tell a difference
My 4k content is mainly coming from youtube for my KPOP enjoyment and it looks damn crispy

This monitor does hit my checkbox
27inch- Check
Natively support for 4k at 60hz - check
Natively support for 1440p at 120hz - check
VESA mount - Only if you buy the bracket for additiional cost of RM 59-RM 69
CHEAP - Check.

So it is up to you in the end if you can stand the annoying 144hz issue but if you are happy with 120hz for gaming and 4k for video consumption, sure you can jump the gun and get it.

If you only want 1440p at 144hz, I suggest looking at a slightly more expensive VA panel by acer the VG271UP by Acer. Saw the review of the 2nd batch. Looks quite promising.

Here are 2 pictures on the texts: (Yes I know I don't have alot of stuff on my desktop but if you need more pictures just let me know and I try to upload more.

Final thoughts
Really like the tool-free aluminum alloy design. Nice to touch when cool. Warm to touch when in use. The aluminum acts as a heatsink to the M.2 NVMe SSD inside.

The Asmedia ASM2362 chipset gives fast read & write speed.

Great to use as an OTG drive for my Samsung S9+.

MSI GE65 Raider with RTX2060 light review

The new MSI GE65 Raider that I have now is powered with 240hz monitor with high color accuracy, powered with the RTX2060 which is consider the lowest end of the laptop RTX series right now. Nevertheless, i am here to share my experience and a light testing with some games that I played.

But first of all, just showing the outlook of this laptop:

With the thin bezel design in the recent laptops, it make the original bezel become bigger than it's original. And it feel much more sturdier than usual laptops, comparing it to my older version MSI also much studier.

MSI's laptop have the issue of weak hinge, but from the test and feel of this GE65, it feels very sturdy, but only time knows how long it will last and i will further update on this during my usage.
